Warm purple ube latte with milk foam in a glass

Ube drinks

Ube latte recipe

  • 1 latte
  • 2 minutes
  • Caffeine-free

An ube latte is a creamy, purple latte with a mild, vanilla-like flavor. The trend comes from the Philippines and is increasingly seen in coffee bars. You can make it at home in 2 minutes.

You only need three things: ube powder, a splash of hot water, and milk of your choice. Hot or cold, with or without espresso. And because ube contains no caffeine, you can easily enjoy it in the evening too.

Ingredients

  • 2 to 2.5 g UBE.25 ube powder (a level teaspoon)
  • 20 ml hot water at around 80 °C
  • 180 to 200 ml warm (plant-based) milk
  • Optional: honey, agave syrup or another sweetener
  • Optional: a shot of espresso

This is how you make it

  1. Add 2 to 2.5 grams of ube powder to a bowl or cup.

  2. Whisk until lump-free. Add 20 ml of hot water and whisk the powder smooth with a bamboo whisk or milk frother.

  3. Heat the milk. Heat the milk and froth it if desired.

  4. Combine. Pour the milk into the ube mixture and stir well.

  5. Sweet to the taste. Ube is naturally slightly sweet.

Attention

Never add the powder directly to the milk. This will create lumps that you won't be able to get out. First, mix it with a small amount of hot water, then add the milk.

Tips

  • More flavor or a deeper purple? Feel free to add an extra scoop. We recommend 2 to 2.5 grams, but it's up to you.
  • Prefer it cold? Check out the recipe for an iced ube latte.
  • Extra awake? Add a shot of espresso for a dirty ube latte.

How many lattes do you get out of a bag? At 2 to 2.5 grams per latte, you get about 50 lattes out of a 100-gram bag. That’s around €0.39 per cup.
