Ube matcha latte recipe
The ube matcha latte is a layered drink: creamy purple ube latte on the bottom, topped with a layer of green matcha. Sweet and smooth from the ube, fresh and slightly bitter from the matcha.
You need ube powder, matcha, milk, and ice. Ready in 5 minutes.

- 20 ml hot water at approximately 80 °C
- 150 ml cold (plant-based) milk
- Optional: 1 tsp sugar syrup

- 60 ml water at approximately 80 °C
- Next
- A glass full of ice cubes
- Optional: whipped cream and a pinch of ube powder
Handig om te hebben
- A bamboo whisk
- Two bowls
- A spoon for the layers
This is how you make it
-
Ube layer. Whisk the ube powder with 20 ml of hot water until smooth. Mix with the cold milk and the syrup, if using.
-
Whisk the matcha. In a separate bowl, whisk the matcha with 60 ml of 80°C water until frothy using a bamboo whisk.
-
Fill a glass with ice cubes and pour the ube milk over them.
-
Create layers. Slowly pour the matcha over the convex side of a spoon onto the ube milk.
-
Stir before drinking.
Attention
Don't pour the matcha all at once. Using the back of a spoon keeps the layers beautifully separated. And remember: matcha contains caffeine, ube does not.
Tips
- As in the photo: finish with a dollop of frothed cream and a pinch of ube powder.
- Hot drink? Make a hot ube latte and carefully pour the matcha over it.
- Even better: top it with a layer of ube cold foam.
- Prefer coffee to matcha? Try the ube coffee with espresso.
- Caffeine-free? Leave out the matcha.
